Rotterdam has always been a city of maverick spirits, and Lewsberg fit into that very narrative with the stark exactitude of that city’s infamous Cube Houses. Having drawn comparisons to The Velvet Underground, Television, Nap Eyes, and Parquet Courts, this foursome wields an aesthetic that’s fairly anomalous in contemporary rock. Instead of performative sentiment, Lewsberg opts for distance and emptiness, allowing the hypnotic melodies – and the unadorned lyricism of Arie van Vliet – to trickle down the subconsciousness in mesmerizing fashion.
