If there’s one band aptly crystallizing that whole ‘coming of age’-sentiment nowadays, it has to be New York indie rock stalwarts Sunflower Bean. The group’s wonderful debut Human Ceremony glistens with the idealism of rock nostalgia, embracing the vestiges of 70s classic rock and 80s post-punk with the glee of kids rummaging their parents’ record collection. Sunflower Bean’s critically-acclaimed 2018 breakthrough LP Twentytwo in Blue channels that same lovable penchant, albeit underpinned by the perils and anxieties of today’s sobering social fabric.
